Pilates
is not new, the latest craze in fitness or simply a series of exercises. It is
a complete method of mind-body exercise, developed at the beginning of the 20
century by J Pilates (1880-1967). The Pilates method works to strengthen the
centre of our body, lengthen the spine, build muscle tone and increase body
awareness and flexibility.
Pilates exercises can be adapted to each and every one of us in
different stages of our life. Whether you work in an office, play
competitive sports, are a new mother, suffer from back ache or not, most
people will benefit from doing Pilates on a regular basis.
Each class is a balanced work-out for body and mind, focusing on
strength and flexibility, balance and co-ordination, relaxation. The
body is gently realigned and reshaped, the muscles balanced, so that the
whole body can move more efficiently.
Pilates is also an ideal exercise method for
postnatal women. The exercises focus on abdominal, back and pelvic floor
muscles, help improve posture, alignment and relaxation. A lovely way
to meet other new mums and their babies too!
